QR Code Sharing
What Is QR Code Sharing?
QR Code Sharing lets you securely share a password entry with someone who is physically nearby. The data is encrypted, displayed as a QR code on your screen, and scanned by the other person's DavianVault app. No data is sent over the internet.
What You See
The QR Code Sharing screen is accessible from the Tools tab. It shows:
- An info card explaining: "Secure In-Person Sharing — Data is encrypted and can only be decrypted by DavianVault"
- A "Generate QR Code" button
- A "Scan QR Code" button
- A "How it Works" section with four steps:
- Select Entry
- Encrypt
- Generate QR
- Scan & Decrypt
How to Share a Password
On The Sender's Device:
- Tap "Generate QR Code"
- A list of all your password entries appears — tap the one you want to share
- A large QR code is displayed on your screen, along with the account name
- Show this QR code to the person you're sharing with
- Once they've scanned it, tap "Close"
On The Receiver's Device:
- Tap "Scan QR Code"
- A camera viewfinder opens — point it at the sender's screen
- The QR code is scanned and the data is decrypted
- A "Received Vault Entry" dialog appears showing:
- Account name
- Username
- Password (masked as dots)
- Website URL
- Notes
- Custom fields
- TOTP information (if any)
- Each field has a copy button to copy it individually
- Tap "Import to Vault" to save the entry directly to your vault
- Or tap "Close" to dismiss without saving
Security
- The data is encrypted before being encoded into a QR code
- Only DavianVault can decrypt the data — standard QR code readers will see meaningless encrypted text
- The encryption uses a random key generated for each share
- No data is sent over the internet — the transfer happens purely through the camera scanning the screen
Error Handling
If scanning fails, you may see one of these messages:
- "Invalid QR Code" — the scanned code is not a DavianVault share code
- "Corrupted Data" — the data could not be decrypted (try having the sender regenerate the QR code)
- "Not a DavianVault QR Code" — the code belongs to a different app
Important Notes
- Both devices must have DavianVault installed for this to work
- You must be physically near the other device (close enough for the camera to read the screen)
- The clipboard auto-clears after 30 seconds when you copy fields from the received entry
- This feature is designed for one-on-one in-person sharing — not for sending credentials remotely
