Unlock Your Vault
When You See This Screen
This screen appears every time you open DavianVault after signing in, when your vault is locked, or after the auto-lock timeout expires.
What You See
- A lock icon at the top
- The heading "Unlock Vault"
- An explanation: "Enter your master password to decrypt your vault."
- A Master Password field (hidden by default, with a visibility toggle)
- An "Unlock" button
- A "Forgot Password?" link at the bottom
- If biometric unlock is enabled: a fingerprint/face icon button for biometric authentication
How to Unlock with Your Master Password
- Enter your master password in the password field
- Tap the eye icon if you want to see what you're typing
- Tap "Unlock"
- If correct, the vault decrypts and you're taken to the Dashboard
How to Unlock with Biometrics
If you've enabled biometric unlock in Settings:
- Tap the fingerprint/face icon button
- Authenticate using your device's biometric sensor (fingerprint, face, or Windows Hello)
- If successful, the vault unlocks immediately
When biometric unlock may be unavailable:
- If you just changed your device's biometric data (added a new fingerprint), biometric unlock is automatically disabled for security — you'll need to re-enable it in Settings
- If biometric authentication has been unused for too long (policy timeout)
- If the device's biometric hardware is unavailable
In any of these cases, use your master password instead.
If You Enter the Wrong Password
- An error message appears: "Failed to unlock vault. Please try again."
- You can try again immediately
- There's no lockout, but repeated failures may trigger a rate limit
If You Forgot Your Master Password
- Tap "Forgot Password?" at the bottom of the screen
- You'll be taken to the Account Recovery screen
- You'll need your recovery key to reset your master password
Important Notes
- Your master password is never stored — it's used to derive an encryption key, then discarded from memory
- The password field is automatically cleared when you leave this screen
- If biometric unlock fails, you can always fall back to entering your master password
- The vault automatically locks after the time period you've set in Settings (default: 5 minutes of inactivity)
